We have a number of these small trees in the yard and they produce these pear-shaped pods in the fall. The waxy chestnuts emerge in the early fall days and the squirrels relish them. I loved the light against the side of the pod and the contrast of the well-textured pod with the shiny, almost waxy nuts.
