The fun thing about drones is getting to take photos from completely new perspectives. For example, here’s the top half of a 400-foot-tall dam, in all its cold industrial glory, located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. If you look at the top you can see the doors workers use for maintenance. That gives you an idea of its massive scale.

Large industrial objects are another one of my favorite things to photograph. Dams and especially sexy CO2-free wind turbines. Dams are brutal on the local environment but it's hard not to be impressed by such an impressive display of engineering. This is the second of two photos from my closeup flight of Detroit Dam in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon. This large gravity dam holds back a 400-foot-deep reservoir.

This is probably my favorite of my drone photos. Here’s the process: Step 1: Bring a drone. Step 2: Throw on a CPL filter. Step 3: Make sure no one is looking.
