I was trying to reach a trailhead so I could take some photos of Mount Jefferson at sunset. Instead, I got way lost and found myself in the middle of this beautiful old growth forest in the Cascade mountains. Here's a photo of the last rays of light slipping through the foliage. And then I was way lost and it was dark and I was in the middle of this forest. It least it's warm this time of year...

One last old-growth forest picture. I'm trying to cover these awesome ecosystems from multiple angles. This was about 30 minutes before sunset. A thin layer of clouds was moving in from the nearby ocean, creating this warm light. The blankets of moss covering the branches and big leafy ferns scattered all over the forest floor gave this a prehistoric vibe. I felt like I was in the backdrop for some dinosaur documentary on BBC or Discovery. And now you know what it's like to stand in the middle of a temperate old-growth rain forest!
