Woke up early and walked outside to see that all the frost had made the grassy fields around the house glow. I ran out in shorts, a sweater, no shoes, and my camera to capture the sun as it was cresting over.

I was born and raised near the monuments of Richmond VA. I took this one day while I was photographing with some friends because I have so many memories of playing on something that today is a topic of controversy. While other people remember the slavery of the South, I remember playing knights and dragons, or fighting Darth Vader with a lightsaber in the lawn below it. I felt that it was a photograph that would give many people the opportunity to share their own views of what the statue means to them personally.
