The clear waters around Shark Bay in Western Australia offer uncounted opportunities to capture the tranquil colors of the sea. In this shot, the sand banks beneath the rippling waves make for some interesting colored patterns that reminded me of impressionist paintings.

We woke early to watch the sun tear apart the clouds around Mt Aoraki (Mt Cook), revealing its monolithic self, and the peaks of its surrounding children.

On our way to a camp sight on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state my wife, brother-in-law, and I pulled off to the side of the road in awe.  The familiar glow of the sun cresting the horizon rejuvenated our spirits after a long dark drive. Leaving our car behind on the side of the highway, we climbed a nearby knoll and were struck by this sight. The sun diffused, but glorious against the mist and marine layer of the morning. What a moment to memorialize in a photo.  After the shot I put my camera down and we just sat and enjoyed the warmth.
